little island P4 Chinese exam paper format (试卷二): sections, marks and a free practice paper
Most Singapore primary schools set the P4 华文 end-of-year exam in three parts: Paper 1 (作文, composition), Paper 2 (试卷二, language use and comprehension) and Paper 3 (口试与听力, oral and listening). The layout below is the one common to the 2022–2024 school P4 papers we checked; it is not an official MOE/SEAB blueprint, and each school sets its own paper.

Paper 2 (试卷二), section by section

Exact marks and the order of sections vary between schools and between SA1 and SA2; the skills tested are the same. Two things help most with the first two sections: the week's P4 听写 words, and the characters children often confuse.
How to use the practice paper
Let your child do it like a real test: no answers until the end. Then go through the review together — every mistake shows the right answer, a 🔊 button, and the sentence from the passage that gives the answer away. You don't need to speak Chinese to help.
On Little Island the next paper adapts: it leans on the words your child found hard and moves on to harder ones as they improve.
Questions parents ask
Is the practice paper the real school paper?
No. It is written in the same format, with words from the 欢乐伙伴 P4 textbooks (4A and 4B), so your child practises exactly the kind of question they will meet.
How long does it take?
The short paper takes about 10 minutes. The full 45-mark paper takes 30–45 minutes, like the real Paper 2.
Does my child need an account?
No. The practice paper works without signing up. Children who want to keep their progress can start an island for free.
What about 听写 and oral?
See our P4 听写 lesson lists with audio. Reading aloud (朗读) is practised on the island, where the game listens and shows which characters were read correctly. For Paper 3 listening (听力理解), try the free listening practice: a passage read by an announcer, heard at most twice, then questions.
